Relax–college
may be more affordable than you think!
The
Education Path is a non-profit group 501(c)3 that provides resources
to plan for and pay for college.
Our focus is on the critical years in planning for college (Grades 9
thru 12). Our programs are designed to provide solutions to questions
and concerns we continually hear from parents and students.
The Education Path is exactly what our name says. We provide a path to help students move through the college funding process using programs, monthly tips, and periodic updates. With our current focus on Georgia, we have compiled hundreds of local scholarships, along with some regional and national ones. We will begin adding additional states soon. If you know of any local scholarships that are available in your community, please email us at scholarships@theeducationpath.org.
The Education Path believes it is not only an individual effort
but a community effort to make sure our next generation receives a high
quality and affordable education. We help parents and students
take advantage of the many local resources available such as college
fairs, educational seminars, and scholarships. By getting an early start
on paying for college, you can relax and enjoy significantly lower out
of pocket costs.

| Over
the years, we've heard questions such as these again and
again...
PARENTS want to know:
- How
do I find information on scholarships?
- What
strategies can I use to get financial aid?
- Is
there a timeline I can follow through this entire process?
STUDENTS
want to know:
- What's
the best school for the major I want to pursue?
- How
do schools view my SAT scores if I take the test a few
times?
- How
do schools consider my involvement in extra curricular
activities and community service?

The
CHALLENGES that you're facing:
Costs just keep going up. Year after year the average
increase in the cost of tuition has ranged from 6% to 8%. The lower
end of the range is typical for private colleges and the upper end for
public colleges. For the 2006-2007 school year this range has narrowed,
5.9% for private colleges and 6.3% for public colleges. Consider the
cost of attendance for the University of Georgia, the 1996-1997 cost
was $9,000 compared to approximately $15,000 per year for the 2006-2007
school year. This is a 65% cost increase over 10 years. This
increase is comparable to what students at Princeton University found.
The cost of attendance was $28,325 ten years ago to $45,500 for the
2006-2007 school year. This represents a 61% cost increase over the
last 10 years. This
number is expected to increase through the years of 2013-2014.
Competition among students is getting tougher. Incoming
freshman classes have reported an increase in the average GPA. The incoming
freshman class for North Carolina State University has an average GPA
of 4.1 and the freshman class at the University of Florida had an average
GPA of 3.99.
Family
savings can't keep up. This applies to all income levels. Student
debt is at an all time high. The average amount of debt a student is
taking on when leaving college is approximately $19,000. Federal loans
are increasing each and every year while private loans are reaching
unprecedented levels. Private loans have increased 734% in the school
year 2004-2005 compared to 10 years ago.
It's
getting harder to graduate in 4 years. Many students are now
taking six years to graduate. Four year graduation rates can range from
10% to 90% depending on the school. This will vary from public to private
schools.
